Sabu (Japanese, Drama)

Sabu (Satoshi Tsumabuki) and Eiji (Tatsuya Fujiwara) were best friends since they were small. They served as poor trainees in a traditional umbrella store. Sakebi (Japanese, Drama)

Japanese writer-director Kurosawa Kiyoshi made his international breakthrough in 1997 with the acclaimed psychological thriller Cure. Renowned for his horror titles, the director has a knack for getting under the skin and into the mind with deep, unsettling films that challenge the boundaries of the genre. A decade after Cure, Kurosawa teams up with producer Ichise Taka (Ring, Ju-On) and again actor Yakusho Koji, the star of Cure and 2003's Doppelganger, for Sakebi (Retribution). Detective Yoshioka (Yakusho Koji) is in charge of a serial murder case, and in the course of investigation, he discovers his own fingerprints and personal effects at a murder scene. As more and more clues point to him, Yoshioka tries hard to make sense of the situation, but it's as if a cloud hangs over his mind and pieces of his life are missing in darkness. His relationship with his longtime girlfriend Harue (Konishi Manami) feels empty and distant, and his partner Miyaji (Ihara Tsuyoshi) is starting to suspect him. Unsure if he can even trust himself, Yoshioka goes to police psychiatrist Takagi (Odagiri Joe) for help, but the therapy can't seem to clear his mind of shadows and spectres. Is Yoshioka actually hunting himself?

Sanjuro (Japanese, Drama)

In Japan circa Eighteenth Century, nine young men decide to present an accusation of corruption in their clan to the local superintendent. Sayonara Jupiter Vol. 1 (Japanese, Sci-Fi)

Secret Sunshine (Korean, Romance)

Renowned Korean filmmaker Lee Chang Dong, the director of Green Fish, Peppermint Candy, and Oasis, returns to the director's chair in 2007 with the critically acclaimed Secret Sunshine. The Shaw Studio, owned by Shaw Brothers, is the forerunner and the largest movie production company of Hong Kong movies.

From their distribution base in Singapore and as a strategic development of their movie distribution business in Southeast Asia, Sir Run Run Shaw and his third brother Runme Shaw founded South Sea Film in 1930. It was later renamed Shaw Brothers Studio. The studio released Hong Kong's first movie with sound (which translates as "platinum dragon", or one of the slang terms for a pistol) in 1934.

Spider Forest (Korean, Horror)

Spider Forest is the latest offering from South Korean writer/director Ilgon-Song, who last gave audiences the award winning surreal feminist road movie "Flower Island". Like that other movie, "Spider Forest" is a cinematic oddity, a film whose genre is hard to pin down and whose incredibly intricate plot cannot be described in too much detail without giving away some of the movie's multiple twists. The film is equal parts horror, murder mystery and detective thriller, though it is perhaps best described as being a surrealist, disorientating exploration of memory and grief. In this respect, it most resembles another recent Korean film, "A Tale of Two Sisters", albeit in a far more adult and even more intellectually demanding form.

Takeko keeps a framed design of the spider lily flower on the wall of her tattoo parlor. The design was literally cut from the flesh of her father, after he was crushed to death in an earthquake.
